“Red apple of the evening”:

Chalk Art

My artistic creation, an image that captures a Venice street at dusk, is an intense and sensitive reflection on the fleeting beauty of everyday life. Through the play of light and shadow, the work tells a story that goes beyond the simple representation of a city: it is an ode to the transience of time and the magic that slowly fades away, like the passage from day to night.

The setting is a Venetian alley, a street that, although it looks like any other view of a city, has that unique characteristic that only Venice can evoke. It is not so much the place itself, but the atmosphere that the alley creates, a space suffused with a light that blends perfectly as night falls. The gradually darkening sunset sky gives way to the first artificial rays of the street lamp, warming the air with a soft golden light.

In this fusion of light, the scene becomes a powerful symbol of a suspended, almost surreal moment. The transition from day to night, the boundary between natural and artificial light, becomes a perfect image of life itself: a continuous alternation of moments of great vitality and moments of silence, where day gives way to night, but not without carrying with it the memory of what has been.

Although the alley is a common element in every city, in this case it is imbued with the magic that only Venice can offer. The city, a symbol of history and culture, of navigation and beauty, almost seems to disappear here, were it not for the small detail that reminds us that we are in the heart of La Serenissima. But the essence of the scene lies not so much in recognizing Venice, but in perceiving the feeling of time passing, of a life that continues to flow, but is about to give way to something more mysterious, the night.

Light is not just a technical element here, it is a protagonist. The mixture of the warmth of the street lamp and the freshness of the sun’s fading rays tells us of a reality that is not only external, but reflected in an internal emotion. It is as if the last moment of light reminds us that, although we are alive and awake, we are never too far from the silence of the night, when everything stops and rests.

In this corner of Venice, which could be any corner of the world, your work captures the essence of what is ephemeral and true in life. The city, bustling and touristy by day, is presented here as an intimate, almost hidden space where the reality of everyday life is reflected. The intention is not to idealise or romanticise the place, but to show its most intimate beauty, that which is only revealed in those moments of transition, when the day comes to an end and prepares to give way to the mystery of the night.

My creation, then, is not just a representation of Venice, but a metaphor for life itself, always in motion, always on the verge of change. The fading light, the advancing shadow, the darkening sky, all intertwined in a great image of what is authentic, true and ever changing. A reflection on the fact that, like the fading light at sunset, our lives are destined to change, but always with that elusive beauty that remains in the heart like an indelible memory.
